About Me – Lorena, Psychologist Supporting Adults, Couples & Families

Psychologist in Edinburgh.

I'm a psychologist based in Edinburgh.

My professional journey began in Spain, where I completed my Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of Oviedo.

Driven by a curiosity for different cultures, I spent a few years in Italy by completing an internship at the School of Neuroscience, University of Cagliari.

In 2014, I moved to Edinburgh to pursue an MSc in Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Psychological Practice at the University of EdinburghDuring this time, I gained valuable experience working alongside educational professionals and organisations supporting young people.

Since 2019, I’ve been supporting children, and families dealing with issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders.

I founded my practice in 2021, offering both online and walking therapy with a clear focus on wellbeing and emotional growth.

To continue expanding my skills, I earned my Mindfulness certification in 2022, and since then, I’ve been offering mindfulness courses and meditation groups.

Butterfly

The butterfly metaphor

There were once three caterpillars that were transforming into butterflies: they were not hungry anymore, their mobility was decreasing and their cocoons were isolating them from the world that they have known so far.

The first caterpillar thought that its life was coming to an end and from the bottom of its heart she said goodbye to the good moments.

The second one cheered itself up by thinking everything would be back to normal at some point.

The last one felt that what was happening could be the opportunity to make its dream come true: the desire of flying.

When the cocoons opened there were three different realities:

The first caterpillar was a beautiful butterfly but it was dead. It died because of fear.

The second caterpillar was a gorgeous butterfly but instead of flying it crawled as it was sure to still be a caterpillar.

As soon as the third one saw the light, it looked for its wings and when it saw them its heart beat full of happiness and started to fly sharing its joy in the forest.

"Life is the story you tell yourself. Psychotherapy helps you to find the right words for your story".
